I know it seems like I am getting off of the subject of back & wrist pain a little bit here, but since this weblog is new I want to lay the foundation so we can have something solid to build on. Honestly, if you could change only ONE thing in regards to your lifestyle, and you were not consuming a plant based diet , making this change would give you the most bang for your buck. Not only is it cheaper to eat this way, it also gives you almost instantaneous gratification in the form of weight loss, energy, and overall health. So, expect a good healthy dose of plant based postings so we can lay the groundwork for the future. Accordingly, here is a great post I found on Dr. Larry Grogans interesting website on Fiber and Weight Loss. The bottom line is, fiber acts like a roto-rooter inside your digestive tract. It absorbs and cleans out your intestines of unwanted waste deposits and residue. It is filling so it helps to satisfy the hunger drive, and it binds glucose molecules together into long chains which form complex carbohydrates and starches, releasing them slowly into your system which keeps insulin levels low. When you take an orange and throw it in the blender to make orange juice, you destroy most of the binding energy of the fiber and break the glucose molecules down into simple sugar, which is almost like drinking a coke (without all the chemicals). Simple sugar consumption (coke, candy, cake, fruit juice) spikes up your insulin levels, leading to all sorts of health problems (such as diabetes and obesity) if done day in and day out. We will discuss this later. For now, read this great article on Fiber , then eat a baked potato with some vegetarian chili (with no salt) on top, a small salad, and a banana for desert. Have more if you want, because you dont have to worry about counting calories when you eat like this. But you know what ? Most likely you will be full because of all the fiber.
