San Francisco and Marin County Chiropractor Dr. Eben Davis comments on a recent study suggesting women who eat a Plant Based Diet build Stronger Bones than Meat Eaters
I have been teaching patients for quite a while that there is a connection between what we eat and bone density. And, it's not what you think. The milk and dairy industries spend billions of dollars every year trying to tell us thing like "Milk is Good Food." The ironic thing is that milk and dairy products, along with other sources of animal protein such as meat and chicken, and yes, fish, cause us to lose bone mass. The meat and dairy industries want us to think that we lose bone mass when we don't get enough calcium or protein. There could not be anything farther from the truth. We lose calcium (bone mass) when we eat too much protein. So what is too much ? Well, I'm sorry to say that we should not eat any. Then how do I get my protein you ask ? Hey, elephants and apes are the largest, strongest animals in the world and they are vegetarian, just like we were designed to be. Anyway, I don't want to ram this down your throat, instead I will direct you to an article I found on the website of the US Dept. of Agriculture which explains the outcome of a study they did to try and figure out why/if vegans do in fact have stronger bones than omnivores, and thus less osteoporosis. You be the judge.
