Chronic Low Back Pain: An Economic Burden and Medical Challenge. Is There a Solution?
San Francisco Chiropractor Comments:
Here is an excerpt from a special report in Anesthesiology News entitled; Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression To Treat Chronic Low Back Pain:
In the United States, Low Back Pain (LBP) is the second most common reason for a visit to a physician, the fifth most common cause of admission to a hospital, and the third most common indication for surgery. A minority of patients with back pain account for the majority of health care costs related to back pain, indicating that the potential cost of treating all patients with back pain is much higher than the actual cost.
I know low back pain is one of the primary conditions we treat at our San Francisco Back and Wrist Pain Center. Most cases are chronic...meaning the patient has had the problem for more than 6 months. Some of these patients are in really bad shape. Some are unable to work. Some are unable to get a good nights sleep, making life almost unbearable.
And treating chronic low back pain can be very challenging. Many patients have tried all sorts of back pain therapies, from acupuncture, chiropractic, and physical therapy...to cortisone and pain medications.
My experience has been that most patients want to avoid surgery if possible. Some will not have surgery no matter how bad the back pain is. So what can be done? Is there a solution other than surgery?
For some chronic low back pain sufferers there is...and it's called Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression of the Lumbar Spine. The decompression machine that I use at my San Francisco Financial District Decompression Center is the DRX9000.
The DRX9000 is often times able to help chronic low back pain patients when nothing else will.
However...it's not a magic bullet. It's possible to go through the entire treatment process and still be in the same place you were when you started. In fact, because the treatment is physical, albeit very gentle...it's possible to even experience an increase in symptoms. It's just not likely.
Hey, if soreness or twitches or lack of results are they only side effects...it's worth a shot...at least to my patients it is. After all, what's the alternative ?
Say it only helps a little...but that little bit enables you to regain some lost quality of life...can you put a price tag on that?
The DRX9000 is for patients that understand it is possible it wont help them (just not likely) and are ready to commit to the 5-6 week treatment regimen...including home care and exercises. You cant just put it all on the machine...you have to do your part.
If you are ready to get your life back, and you are willing to accept the fact that the DRX9000 may not work...then you should seriously consider lumbar spinal decompression therapy. If you don't...you will never know if it would have helped or not. There's no message board that can tell you. There's no doctor that can tell you. And there's no friend that can tell if the DRX9000 will work for you.
YOU HAVE TO DO IT TO FIND OUT...The next move is yours.
