San Francisco Vegan Chiropractor Comments:
Osteoporosis and Diabetes are very common diseases in our society. And most people believe they are stricken by them...that it's just bad luck that I got Diabetes. Or that Osteoporosis and it's associated bone loss, is something that just happens with age.
Type I Diabetes (Juvenile) patients lose the ability to make insulin, and can occur up to 40 yrs of age. It is thought to be an auto-immune response...but really, causation is unknown. Type I is insulin dependent, but can benefit from proper nutrition.
But, Type II Diabetes (Adult-onset) which is more common, is often times directly connected to food choices, which can lead to excess weight and insulin resistance. In fact, the typical American diet is quite capable of causing Type 2 Diabetes...which is why it is so prevalent. But, Type 2 can often be cured by diet.
Osteoporosis is a little tricky. The meat and dairy industries want you to think that you need to consume their products to maintain strong teeth and bones...even build muscle. After all...Milk Is Good Food, right? Sure it is...for baby cows. It gives them everything they need to multiply their body weight and plump up real quick. Get this...COWS DO NOT EVEN DRINK THEIR OWN MILK AFTER THEY ARE WEANED. WE ARE THE ONLY SPECIES THAT DRINKS ANOTHER SPECIES MILK.
So, what are the implications of drinking cows milk and eating meat products?
Well, cows milk and animal flesh do not have any carbohydrates or fiber, and they are very fatty, and sticky. When you consume animal products (this includes chicken, fish, eggs, cheese) it thickens your blood and the fat cells end up sticking to your arteries and reducing your blood flow...raising your blood pressure, and predisposing you to heart attacks and strokes. Can you imagine what your blood looks like after 20 years of this (watch this video)?
And, animal products are very acidic, so the body needs to leach calcium from your bones to maintain proper acid-base balance (PH) in the body. Over time this can lead to Osteoporosis and there is no amount of calcium supplementation or medication that will ever compensate for it.
The typical American diet, rich in fats, proteins, and sugars is a primary cause of both Osteoporosis and Type 2 Diabetes...and this is not just my opinion. For all the research you will ever need as well as the information to do something about it, visit www.drmcdougall.com.
Why hasn't your doctor ever told you about this? Good Question. What about the government...they must know this to be true...wouldn't they want to help prevent diseases and save lives? Another good question. Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I don't know the answers to these questions either. And quite frankly, I'm not going to waste too much time trying to figure them out.
I will do my moral duty by writing about it and supporting people like Dr. John McDougall. It just seems so simple...eat what we were designed to eat and be healthy (plant foods). How hard would it really be to get this message across if our government really tried.
Our diet is just too ingrained in our culture, and the meat, dairy, and drug companies are a major source of TV advertising money and political contribution dollars. So, all the money goes toward researching for magic bullets so that we can figure out a way to maintain our unhealthy lifestyles...without having to pay the price.
But that's no reason to go to an early grave. You can also read the great book, The China Study, it will open your eyes to a whole new way of thinking about what you and your family eat.
The solution is to become educated on a personal level. Most chronic, degenerative diseases, including colon cancer, are linked to diet also. Then, make some changes and see how you feel. Little steps...you can do it :)
