SF Embarcadero Center Chiropractor Comments on Skin Cancer Study

Study results show those with Benign Skin Cancers may be more prone to Serious Forms of Cancer

Gwil203011 I just read an alarming article on the very informative www.revolutionhealth.com home page. The article is entitled Benign skin cancers may be "warning sign" study.

The study goes on to explain how people who have what is considered normally non-fatal skin cancer, have DOUBLE the risk of developing fatal skin cancer. So...non-melanoma skin cancer appears to be a major risk factor for other forms of cancer.

The study did not really get into why...other than to say...there appears to be a problem repairing sun damaged DNA...even more of a reason to be careful in the sun.

Here's what I think: Lifestyle habits play a big part also. Things like stress, lack of exercise, and poor diet...and spinal subluxations. Living a clean, healthy life...and eating a plant based diet, and regular chiropractic care, increases your resistance to sickness and disease...including cancer.

    Correcting Poor Posture Takes Work

    San Francisco Chiropractor Comments:

Fhp_graphic1 As I have previously mentioned...our new clinic, Executive Express Chiropractic at the SF Embarcadero Center, will be primarily focused on relief care. Patients with back, neck, or wrist pain, will be able to walk in without an appointment and get a chiropractic warm-up massage & adjustment in a jiffy.

But what about patients that want to correct poor posture...isn't that a lot more involved?

Yes it is. Your posture is the position your spinal bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons are in. Your posture is the end product of everything you have ever done in your life. Every fall you have ever taken, every airplane you have ever flown on...every day you have ever sat in front of a computer...everything.

Correcting posture is a process, and is considered corrective chiropractic care, which is longer term than chiropractic relief care...which is just getting out of pain or discomfort.

There are mirror image exercises that we prescribe for postural correction that are done in conjunction with specific biomechanical spinal adjustments...as well as spinal traction...done at home. There is also ergonomic instruction, sleep position training, and much more.

Yes it's a lot...but that's what it takes to unwind a lifetime of poor posture habits.

Executive Express Chiropractic will still help patients correct posture if that's what you want...just let us know...we will take it from there. But be prepared to put some work into it...and some time.

Executive Express Chiropractic to offer Active Release Technique (ART)

    San Francisco Chiropractor Comments:

Art20new20logo1 Executive Express Chiropractic at the Embarcadero Center has just hired a new doctor that is certified in the Active Release Technique (ART). ART is a state of the art massage/movement system that treats muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia, and nerves.

ART is very effective for Sports Injuries as well as Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI).

Professional athletes and dancers use ART on a regular basis, as do patients with chronic pain syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), fibromyalgia, tendonitis, plantar fascitis, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, and joint dysfunctions.

We treat a lot of sports injuries and RSI at Executive Express Chiropractic, so Active Release Technique will only enhance our results.

Our new clinic should be up and running around the first week in October...so be on the lookout. Also, our new website is coming soon.

For a complimentary consultation at Executive Express Chiro (at our interim space) at the SF Embarcadero Center...please call 415-392-2225, press ext #1 (24 hr live operators).

Chronic Back Pain and Weight Gain

San Francisco Chiropractor and Chronic Back Pain Doctor Comments:

Med0261 When you gain weight, it puts abnormal stresses on the spinal discs, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Over time, this can lead to chronic low back pain.

As the spinal discs wear down prematurely, the vertebrae come closer together, which can put pressure on the spinal cord and lumbar nerve roots. This condition is called degenerative disc disease, or DDD. Disc disease can lead to herniated lumbar discs (watch Spine-health.com herniated disc video).

So, not only are you at risk for all the other health problems that go along with being overweight, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, and diabetes...you have chronic back also. Does the food really taste that good? Not to me.

It seems pretty obvious that we are not meant to be overweight or obese. In fact, many degenerative health conditions, including back pain, will resolve simply by losing weight...and keeping it off.

Sure, this takes some time and effort...but so does anything worthwhile. The answer is not going to be found in a bottle with pills in it. The answer will be found on your dinner plate.

Probably the best source of information I know of for healthy weight loss is www.drmcdougall.com. Check it out, and let me know what you think.

Chiropractic Relief Care vs. Corrective Care

    San Francisco Chiropractor Comments:

Superstock_1647r792471 When I see a patient for the first time at Executive Express Chiropractic...I always let them know there are two basic forms of chiropractic care. There is relief care, which is pain control, and there is corrective care, which is working on the underlying structural abnormalities (that are causing the pain) to make a more permanent change.

Chiropractic relief care is great to just get out of pain quick. This can happen after just a few visits...or maybe up to 12-15 visits if the problem is really bad.

At Executive Express Chiropractic,  corrective care can take many more visits...say 20-40. And, there is more of a commitment to home care...lots of very specific exercises. It's kind of like spinal orthodontics.

In my 17 years as a chiropractic doctor in downtown SF, I have practiced mostly corrective care. But, over the past several years, I began to notice a change as far as what my new patients were looking for...more relief oriented chiropractic. Time is a precious commodity these days.

So, I decided to give them what they want, which is why I am building the NEW Executive Express Chiropractic at the Embarcadero Center, Lobby Level...where all the shops are. We will be more relief care oriented, and we will be very assessable...open 6 days per week. And, you can just walk right in...without an appointment. It's all about convenience these days...consumers demand it, businesses must deliver it.

So, whether it's relief care or corrective care...you will find it at Executive Express Chiropractic Clinic...you make the choice.

    DRX9000 Treatment Protocol

San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctor Comments:

Md_news_photos_011 The manufacturer of the DRX9000 has set a recommended protocol for spinal decompression. In a nutshell, it is daily for 2 weeks, three times for 2 weeks, and two times for 2 weeks. 20 sessions over 6 weeks.

At Executive Express Chiropractic in downtown San Francisco we used to adhere to this protocol...in the begining. Then, what we found is...it really doesnt matter, as long as there are multiple sessions per week. Heck, I have found that the DRX9000 will still deliver results with a 2-4 week break at the half way point.

At my decompression center we shoot for at least 2-3 times per week until we hit 20 sessions. If we need more...and some patients do...we add them on.

In addition, at Executive Express Chiropractic, we incorporate chiropractic adjustments and massage as needed...whatever works...all cases are treated on an individual basis.

So, sure the DRX9000 protocol makes sense...but the most important thing is getting yourself on the DRX machine, keeping your appointments, and listening to your doctor.

If you would like to find out if you are a candidate for nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX 9000 at Executive Express Chiropractic at the Embarcadero Center...please call 415-392-2225, press ext #1.

Traveling with Chronic Low Back Pain?

    San Francisco Chiropractic Doctor Comments:

Wow_142c1 Traveling is very hard on your body. The reason for this is because you are carrying heavy luggage, sleeping in different beds, and usually doing physical activities outside of your normal baseline...this can stir things up if you aren't careful.

If you have chronic low back pain and you need to travel...the best thing you can do is try to take it easy before you go. Do the things that seem to give you back pain relief.

I have my San Francisco chiropractic patients see me right before they go...and right when they get back from their trip.

It's also best to start icing a few days before you go...and to bring some ice packs with you, as well as a back support to wear when you are on the plane and carrying your luggage. The kind of elastic back support you can buy in a Walgreen's store.

Always remember to listen to your body. If you feel the low back pain coming on...ice right away and put the back support on. Try to do a little stretching...and carry as little as possible when you are walking around. If you do all these things you have a pretty good chance to make it through the trip OK.

Is Chiropractic the answer for Chronic Back and Neck pain?

San Francisco Executive Express Chiropractor Comments:

Nri02381 I have been treating chronic back and neck pain in the SF Financial District for over 17 years now. One thing for sure...every single case is different. Sure, there are similarities...but people respond differently to pain...and a lot depends on our personality types.

Some patients have to be practically crippled with pain to admit that anything is wrong. And other patients will act like it's the end of the world with only minor symptoms...and everything in between.

So...with such a wide variety of pain responses, how can doctors decide with any accuracy what the best course of treatment is for chronic back pain...or neck pain?

Well...it's not easy, and this is the primary reason why I choose to be a chiropractor. Chiropractors understand that symptoms are not the actual problem when it comes to back or neck pain. The symptoms are the result of the problem...evidence that something is not right. Back pain, neck pain, arm and hand pain, sciatica...these are all symptoms.

But the thing is...our entire medical system is designed to diagnose and treat symptoms...a losing battle. Chiropractors seek to restore rather than replace. If a chiropractic adjustment can put a bone back into it's normal position (a misaligned vertebrae is called a subluxation), and at the same time remove nerve pressure...the body will no longer send pain signals to the brain...problem solved.

Of course it's not always this easy...and often times pain signals can be sent to the brain for all kinds of other reasons...including emotional triggers. But...here's my opinion. No matter what else is going on, you don't need subluxations along with it.  And correcting subluxations is very safe and gentle...and drug free.

My 17 years experience as a San Francisco chiropractor...and my 40 years experience as a chiropractic patient has taught me that chiropractic is not the answer for everything...but I'll tell you this...it's not where it is today because of smoke and mirrors. Chiropractic delivers...often times when hope is lost.
